Do you live, work, travel or operate in an environment more that 1 hour away from definitive medical care? If you do then having urban first-aid training does not prepare you for dealing with or treating medical emergencies that require prompt action nor does it teach you to survive the initial 24/ 48 hrs after an accident in the outback.
This unique course combines the Wilderness Medical Instituteʼs proven advanced first aid techniques with basic survival instruction from experienced ex-SAS instructors with the advantage of using our specially designed ʻgrab bagsʼ containing all the equipment that you may need to provide shelter, fire, water and signals to rescue crew as well as give First Aid to injured members of the group.

A must for anyone with need to survive in the harsh outback climate.

When 000 is not an option, the rules change ... plain and simple! For 15 years the Wilderness Medicine Institute has defined the standards in wilderness medicine training. Extreme Medical offer a wide range of course and certification opportunities tailored to meet your needs. Our teaching philosophy is to emphasize treatment principles and decision making, not the memorization of lists. Our philosophy centers around the physical and psychological well being of our students and staff. We employ scenario-based teaching as a complement to lecture style instruction. This is why our students learn so well and feel confident in employing their newly acquired judgment and skills.

You may be well trained in urban first aid, but if you live, work or travel in a Remote Area how would you cope in a first aid situation?

Whilst having a current First Aid certificate may be an advantage in the Metro or Urban setting where an Ambulance, Doctor or Hospital may be available within a short period of time; being in a Remote Area setting changes things.

• Simple cuts or wounds can easily become infected without proper wound irrigation and treatment.

• A simple choking episode can lead to a serious event.

• A head injury that could be looked after in the home or under medical supervision has the potential to become critical.

• Care of the potential spinal injury, common in many vehicle impacts, is often over looked.

• Improvised use of equipment to ease the pain and prevent further injury to complicated fractures or joint dislocations.

The Wilderness First Aid syllabus has been tried and tested in situations where medical aid is not instantly available, the course structure has been specifically structured to the rugged Australian setting. Course instruction is complimented by practical demonstration and scenario's. Instructed by highly qualified ex-special forces medics who have used these techniques out in the field for real emergencies. The volume of knowledge and the practical syllabus provides real confidence should the unthinkable become reality.

Survival Component.

Not all survival training is about rubbing sticks together to make a fire. A lot of what makes the difference between a survivor and a statistic is some common sense training and having the correct equipment with you at all times. Weʼll show you how to get a fire going but it will be with a fire-lighter from your survival “grab bag”.
Weʼll ensure you have some food to eat but it will be from your ration pack and not bugs and beetles and weʼll show you how to
build a shelter but again it will be with the tarp you have in your kit and not by chopping down trees and building A frames.
Our aim is to give you the right equipment and training to sustain life until help arrives, no matter where you are.
